FAQ

Teachers and Administrators are licensed in Oregon by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). Employees in assignments requiring certification are expected to maintain license and endorsement requirements particular to their teaching positions by renewing licenses as necessary through TSPC. The following information will help guide you through the license renewal process.

How will I know when I need to renew my license?TSPC sends renewal notifications to licensed individuals several months prior to license expiration.  Ultimately, license maintenance is the professional responsibility of the license holder.

What do I need to do to renew my license?
License renewal requirements depend on the type of license you currently hold. Please visit the TSPC website for specific renewal information.

What happens if I do not renew my license before the expiration date?
If an employee’s position requires a license, they will be pulled from the position the day after the license’s expiration date if the license does not enter into “Grace Period” status. The employee cannot return to work until the license is renewed or enters into “Grace Period.”

I need a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) plan for my license. What do I need to do?
Your CPD plan is developed with your supervisor and tracked over the life of the license. The CPD plan lists all of the professional development activities an employee has engaged in from the issue date to the expiration date of the license being renewed.

What is a PEER form?
One requirement for certification renewal is verifiable experience. The District completes the Professional Education Experience Report (i.e., PEER form) and sends it to directly to TSPC and the renewal applicant via email. The PEER form records are district specific professional experience during the life of the license being renewed. Professional Development Units (PDUs) must be tracked over the life of the license and reported to the District for recording on the PEER form. Tracking of PDUs is the responsibility of the applicant.

I cannot locate my letter from TSPC stating what I need to renew. How can I get a copy?
You can read all correspondence from TSPC online by going to the TSPC License Inquiry link and entering your name as it appears on the license, birth date and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
