McKinney Vento

 

 

The McKinney-Vento Act’s Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program, ensures that homeless children and youth are provided a free, appropriate public education, despite lack of a fixed place of residence or a supervising parent or guardian.

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Students who lack a fixed, regular, adequate nighttime residence, including students who live:

  • With another family due to loss of housing or economic hardship
  • In a family or youth shelter
  • In a motel or vehicle
  • In a location that lacks heat or plumbing

WHAT SCHOOL CAN I ATTEND?

  • The school you last attended when you had permanent housing;
  • The last school you attended;
  • The neighborhood school where you are temporarily living.

Rogue River Community Resources - local community resources for food and clothing

Community Resources in Grants Pass - community resources in Grants Pass for a variety of needs

ACCESS Rental and Energy Assistance - Keeping families in their homes and helping them stay warm

Jackson County Homeless Shelter - Salvation Army shelter in Medford, Oregon

Child Care Resource Network - Connecting families with child care providers in the local area

Rogue River Head Start - Programs servicing children from infancy to age 5

Maslow Project - A nonprofit organization in Medford providing street outreach and basic needs, crisis intervention and advocacy, and essential support services to homeless children and youth in Jackson County

Hearts with a Mission - Serving homeless and at-risk youth by providing shelter, educational support, mentoring and transition planning with a faith based approach

Rogue Valley Transit - Bus service now serving between Grants Pass and Medford with stops in Rogue River and Gold Hill.

Nighttime Residency Form - If you have lost housing, please fill out this form and turn it into the school office.  A McKinney Vento Liaison will contact you regarding resources you may need.

 

Every school district in Oregon has at least one designated Homeless Student Liaison to provide direct assistance to homeless families and unaccompanied youths to access and succeed in school.
